Based near Bath in the South West of England, James Loudon (aka Judge) is a stage lighting designer, working in the fields of circus, contemporary dance, performance art and broadcast.
I often work as project designer and production manager and have a broad range of supporting skills such as rigging, audio and 3D visualisation.
I usually design, program and operate the shows myself but will also build designs that can be handed over to house techs to run.
My consoles of choice are Avolites or ChamSys but I am also familiar with GrandMA and ETC equipment.
Events: Glastonbury Festival, Cheltenham International Jazz Festival, Bath International Festival.
Contemporary Circus: Circolombia, Incandescence, Pirates of the Carabina, Cirque Bijou
Music: Tiger Lillies, Neneh Cherry, Van Morrison, Elkie Brooks, World Party, Waterboys, The Godfathers, Everything But the Girl, Julia Fordham, Killing Joke, Here & Now, Hawkwind.
Having spent years gallivanting around the world with musicians, I discovered that what I really liked doing was designing for circus and site specific projects, so since 1997 thats what I have been specialising in. I also work as lighting designer for TV and have designed and run music shows and live events for the BBC.
Lately we have been producing events in places that have never hosted
such things before, such as Incandescence in Bolivia and Circolombia in
Bogota, who despite being the national circus company had never actually
performed one of their large scale shows there.
In addition I run a photography and website design business and can offer complete tour and event documentation for your projects including video production.
